Commodity Monetization

Cantera Partners was founded in 2000 and is an affiliate of the Burlington Capital LLC, an investment management company based in Omaha, Nebraska. We have been partnering with Non-Government Organizations (“NGOs”) and Private Voluntary Organizations (“PVOs”) over the past 18 years in pursuing and executing USDA Food for Progress and USAID Food for Peace programs. Our team has assisted our partners in successfully monetizing over $275 million dollars’ worth of USDA and USAID allocated commodities all over the world. Cantera Partners has also assisted in developing over 50 commodity management strategies and monetization plans for USDA Food for Progress and USAID Food for Peace proposals for over a dozen different NGO’s and PVO’s in over 20 different countries since its inception.

 

We have executed monetizations in the Former Soviet Union, Africa, Central and Southeast Asia. Cantera has monetized more than 500,000 metric tons of USDA and USAID Food Aid commodities including rice, wheat, wheat flour, soybean meal, crude degummed soybean oil, refined vegetable oil, non-fat dried milk powder and feed peas.

 

Our team can draw on over 70 years of individual monetization experience and has been integral to Cantera’s ability to provide its clients with the necessary services to be successful.

Market Analysis

Over the years, Cantera has assisted in developing over 50 commodity management strategies and monetization plans for USDA Food for Progress and USAID Food for Peace initiatives for over a dozen different NGOs and PVOs in over 20 different countries. These have been submitted to USDA and USAID as the monetization portions of proposals or as free-standing monetization plans prior to the execution of monetizations. 

 

When conducting the market analysis, Cantera will utilize desktop resources as well as travel in-country to conduct a more detailed and thorough due diligence by meeting with our NGO/PVO partners, importers, banks, US government officials, local government officials, logistic groups and others that are critical to the ultimate monetization of the commodities. 

 

Over the years as Cantera Partners has conducted this analysis and monetizations, we have been able to develop an extensive network of in-country agents who serve as Cantera’s “eyes and ears” when conducting real-time market analysis and monetizations.

Proposal and Program Development

Cantera Partners has experience in assisting its partners in drafting and reviewing its clients proposals. We have worked alongside our NGO/PVO partners in providing direction, guidance and another set of eyes when structuring, formatting and writing their proposal responses.
